Language
In the realm of language, where words gently sway,
Delicate phrases in delicate array,
Tumbling and fumbling in a delicate ballet,
No utterance supreme, no lexicon to outweigh.
A symphony of sounds, a linguistic sea,
Each note distinct, a unique identity,
A myriad of voices in harmonic diversity,
Crafting a tapestry of spoken tapestry.
Some whispers, soft and slender, barely heard,
Others bold and brash, commanding every word,
Some vanish like mist, ephemeral and blurred,
While some resonate, enduring and assured.
A lexicon vast, an auditory splendor,
Each phoneme crafted, a distinct contender,
A million articulations, each a tender
Gesture of the tongue, a vocal lender.
Yet within this choir, echoes intertwine,
Doppelgangers in the phonetic design,
Homophones, like twins, deceptively combine,
A slip of the tongue, and meanings realign.
"Likeness" in sound, a deceptive snare,
"Lick" and "like," a contrasting pair,
One small misstep, a linguistic affair,
Can lead to bemusement, a comical air.
Two words with pathways so divergent,
Employ them with care, be ever observant,
For the misuse of language can be subversive,
Tangling meanings in knots, leaving logic averse.
So let us speak with precision, with clarity's key,
For words wield power in their decree,
A dance of dialect, of syntax, of poetry,
In the artful craft of language, let us all agree.
