cooling embers

 
souls bared into unrelenting night
blue tides sweeping
unapologetic
across surface of unmarred white
on & on went the bleeding
unabated...unnoticed...unseen
into the keeping of sacred spiral
a purging
chrysalis emerging
untouched
and the world brightened
and grew
sparks shimmering
teasing newborn eyes
testing wings never before tried
and they flew
one among many
glimmers in the dark
brilliant in beauty & in light
but one by one the embers dimmed
as warmth failed...
...chilled by ill winds
and exposure once freeing became stifled
until the waves receded
their natural flow impeded
dam{n}ed by a presence most dark...
...malevolent
leaving vulnerable aching & jaggedly marred
while the spectre stood idly by
watching them quietly die
thus their journey ended
watching energy fade as light continued to ebb
and shards of betrayal speared hope
leaving perforations & holes
as one by one once blazing embers...
...lost their beautiful glow
blinking slowly out
ink awaits its return to page
but not yet...
...this is a time for silence
a moment of respect  
paying homage to those departed
laying wreaths upon tombs
in a graveyard of souls gone mute
