It’s not the work
to make ends
meet that makes
you a Poet.
It’s what you make
that doesn’t pay,
never will,
probably won’t
even be read much.
Yet pennies must be made,
and making them
is a museless panegyric
to necessity.
Just as buying time for
rhyme and rhythm
is a consonant
clinking of coins.
