Ramblings

Dreaming dreamers’ dreams
And all these little things
First chance failures
And second chance fortunes
Squandered all the same

Pictures pinned on walls
Of delicious looking dishes which
We snatch the recipes for
Like dollar bills caught up in the wind
And we seal them away in
Unused cookbooks and
Never have a taste

The sun is smiling and warm
Though it’s midwinter
And the gardens are filled with
Dirty snow and last year’s dead brambles
No buds yet on the trees
But I’m dreaming dreams of green

Another week and
I hope to be
Half a world away
From this reckless little setup
I used to think was
Everything I ever wanted

The grocery bill is extensive
For a cart of seltzer water, discounted butcher cuts, and Wheat Thins
I’ve never bought formula or diapers
But
Sometimes I wish
My check was stretched a bit thinner by them

What a life
Waiting in a McD’s parking lot
The din of semis about
So spectacularly aware of
Possibility
Of course,
I seem always nearest my resolve
When furthest from my chances
And they, too,
Must be paid for
