The Fairy's Hornbeam Staircase
I had always wondered about the Hornbeam
That grew within a nearby park
Twas a wondrous magical tree
Especially under the moonlight, and the dark
And one such night i visited it
When the moon was full, and knowing
The fairy dust flew all around
As the tree began a-glowing
And from its base, a staircase formed
All bright, and shiny, and gold
It led up to its highest branches
A deep mystery to unfold
This profound vision, aroused my senses
As i proceeded to its base
And stepped upon the very first step
With wonderment writ, upon my face
And as i stepped up higher
My head began to spin
Until i reached a portal
I tripped, and then fell in
I landed upon a dragon cloud
All floaty, free, and higher
All puffed up, like a cloak of smoke
That well concealed its fire
Now my life seemed but a dream
As i drifted toward the moon
Nothing was quite, what it seemed
I was lost in a wild cocoon
My eyes all glazed, and starry
Stared at this new found place
I knew not where i was right now
As my head drifted into space
Soon i was upon another world
Where dwelt all the ethereal kind
I landed close to a babbling brook
Not knowing what i'd find
This world was as truly beautiful
As the hills, and dales of Wales
Whilst a tapestry of colours on fairy wings
Hidden secrets, as yet unfurled
As i stood amidst a violet forest
Upon moss of an indigo hue
Pale blue coloured butterflies
Their wings were all askew
The sky a wonderful shade of green
The lands, a myriad isles of yellow
The seas were a bloody orange
As the red sun shone on this Archipeligo
I pondered awhile, upon this landscape
Within this secret silent fairy realm
Until a ship came a-sailing by
I leapt aboard, and took the helm
We drifted north, or was it south?
I had no idea at all
The night sky, was not the one i knew
And by some rocks, i heard a sirens call
The ship sailed for several days
On a sea, i knew not its depths, off land
We thus ran aground, upon a shingly shore
Where upon the Hornbeam did stand
All at once, the Fairy's Staircase appeared
All bright, and shiny, and gold
I climbed the steps, up to its roof
Where its secrets would again unfold
I stepped once more, upon the dragon cloud
All floaty, free, and higher
I was soon returned, to my own world
As my imagination was now on fire
And soon i was at the base of the Hornbeam
That stood proud, and loud, and near a small river
Where i espied a mermaid, a selkie, or perhaps a siren
Which sent my mind, all of a quiver
But they were no more than a curious vision
Caused by the fairy dust within my eyes
Such a magical intrigue of the past night
Dreams beckoned, within my head now lies
