think if i could
be you,
john wieners,
long enough
to write
this poem
how great
it would be
i would be
a poet then,
a holy man,
a priest
chanting
incantations
at god
a woman
dancing
around
the flames
a king
and a player
in the king's
band,
a high roller
in a world
of words
that wrapped
around
the hearts
of strangers
and a speaker
for the hearts
of men i never knew
and john,
just think
how wondrous
this poem
would be

It would be something to understand the creative process of some great artists and poets, what they hear in their minds when they put words together, what inspiration feels like to them, how much of their writing is rewriting, how much of their art is spontaneous as opposed to planned.
And how different or similar that is to my own process.

Dear J,
Once again I am not in the know of yet another author of greatness. Having spent most of my life rushing to be someone, anyone else I thought poem particularly relatable. Thoughtful and poignant because it’s almost prayerful to me. Great piece. H🌷

I've been thinking about participating this coming April and have been trying to write and post more. I'm generally shy of sixty words, though, which is always the most challenging part of NAPO for me. I've been focused on other things and haven't written much lately except to journal and dabble a little. It has seemed a dry season for writing.
