Thieve's Heart

They sneak up on you.
They smile, they laugh, they
stare at you with eyes so deep you get lost
for a moment with just an innocent glance.

They steal your heart and
your left defenseless as they
pick your many pockets.

Am I the only one that sees them
for what they truly are?

Thieves.

When they first approach they’re
hidden sincerity disarms you and
reveals their true nature.

You can’t help but hand over everything that you
have, anything they want you give so no one
gets hurt.

Put it all in the bag please.

Closeness sometimes disguised in an ambiguous
mask of indifference to hide the truth.

Why the mask?
No witnesses please.

They take me as a hostage
and won’t let me go.

Gun held to my head, I dare not move.
I must be careful for the trigger finger is itchy.

I find I like this position I’m in; strapped to
this chair with gag in mouth,
this situation suits me.

What does that say about me?
Perhaps I have a thieve's heart
as well.
