NEW PRAYER TO THE SUN
dream me rising
through this damp haze
to bask in your glory
oh, light of the world,
merciful sun of the gods,
giver of light and life
and maker of this
and all days
grey and bright
you, who rise from
the tomb of dark night
and ascend to reign
from the azure throne
of heaven,
nourish thy green kingdom
and all that lives
therein,
this we pray in earnest
amen

The author encourages honest critique.
This, for me, captures that primordial essence of sun worship. long before the Greeks and Babylonians. I can't help but wonder was it Homo habiis, erectus, neandertalensis, or sapiens that first felt that divine connection. You have a gift, my friend. TY for sharing it with us. I tend to think sun, well, a star, minor in size at the edge/corner of our galaxy and so forth. That's all dry and true, as far as it goes, but does not begin to tell the true story which is that of the awe, the connection, the omyeffinggawd of it all.
Btw, there are so many really good poems here at DUP that it would be loverly to publish an anthology.
I love that Chanticleer crows just before dawn and with that mighty song causes the sun to rise each morning. Your poem does that as well. I love science but science without the awestruck spirit is a dry and lacking thing. Lovely to see that you "get" that.

I love language -- and poetry -- yet I'm usually at a loss for words when it comes to commenting and responding to comments.
