I Wait
I wait for you through long dark hours,
To return to me in warmth and light,
Your looks are now reserved for others,
Their new devotions a fresh delight.
My compliments are dismissed as hollow,
Consigned to history, so it seems,
My feelings ignored, denied, are trapped,
To twist and turn through waking dreams.
You keep me near but not too close,
With declarations of loving me still,
But I know that you will keep me waiting,
As you look only to the latest thrill.

Those declarations can ring hollow. It's a hard but necessary choice to move on and not be left dangling. Excellent work!
