OCD
When OCD is in my head
It fills me up
With so much dread
And thoughts of disastrous
Events appearing real
The "what if's" come
It's fear that I feel
What's best for now
Is some needed distraction
To help me focus
On something of value
A slow deep breath
Makes for a productive start
The door was shut
But now it's open
To help me move in
A different direction
A glance up at the sky
A bird flying high
Can help me to get
Alright in my mind
It fills me up
With so much dread
And thoughts of disastrous
Events appearing real
The "what if's" come
It's fear that I feel
What's best for now
Is some needed distraction
To help me focus
On something of value
A slow deep breath
Makes for a productive start
The door was shut
But now it's open
To help me move in
A different direction
A glance up at the sky
A bird flying high
Can help me to get
Alright in my mind

Thank you, Lil! OCD can be hell but I'd rather have it than most other disorders.

I like that you're exploring different ways to mitigate your OCD, Faith & I really hope it works. I know from my own experience how horrible it is to find oneself in a spiral or rut of negative thinking.

Re. OCD
OCD is an illness for which there is no
cure. I am receiving and have gotten
treatment for it for many years now to help me to live with it. With help you can have as normal a life as possible.

I have OCD tendencies, so I understand and have worked very hard to over come mental illness. That is the secret, that bird flying high cancels out a " what if". I admire you striving to overcome it's hold on you.

Thank you so much for your compassionate response to this
OCD can be hell but I am so much better than I used to before I had the tools to recovery

Short story. Carry a small penlight in your purse. If you feel yourself slipping, reach inside the purse and turn your light on. It works.

Anxiety and OCD arent very fun and for me. it can be extremely crippling to the point of not being able to live daily life normally. Unless you suffer, you just dont know. Hugs and love to you, my dear fellow sufferer. May we all find peace. <3

Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts on my poem. It's true people don't know nor do they understand. I, too, have experienced the crippling effects of OCD. I am so grateful that things have gotten a lot better since I got help. God bless you! My heart goes out to you!

Dear F,
For me there’s a therapeutic value of relief when a problem shared is finally out. I greatly appreciated the courage it took to share this and the wonderful manner in which you did it. The poem is open and honest and as a reader and fellow sufferer it helps knowing there’s someone else who shares this burden. Fabulous piece. H🌷

Dear H,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on my poem. Yes, it's true you are not alone. I think everyone has something they are obsessed about but until you have OCD you don't really know what it's like. People don't understand it. They don't know someone with OCD is driven to perform their rituals.
I always look forward to hearing what you have written. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Love,
F

I like this a lot and have missed your writing. I've not been diagnosed but often feel the urge to order or count objects in my world. My obsessions....let's not go into that.

Hi, there! It's so good to hear from you. Yes, it's been a while but I'm finally back writing. I'm so glad you found my poem meaningful. It must have been meant to be because it seemed to write itself.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Faith
