Groans of Halloween

Groans of Halloween

The gust of the wind never reached my window.
Yet the lights flickered on and off.
A flash of lightning could be seen from afar.
 The roar of hollowing groans.

It was a deafening sound that was getting closer and closer
They moaned in sheer agony, they stirred, they all uprose
Not a word was spoken, only eyes that glowed in fright.
The site was strange; could I be dreaming, perhaps?

To have seen the dead rise was not what my mind could comprehend
Where the hell did they come from? Was it through the wall?
I never felt a breeze.
Just floating in the air, no ropes of confinement.

What do they want from me?
They raised their limbs like corpses.
From what my eyes could see, a body with no head stood.
From what I could assume, these terrifying entities enclosed me and the leader.

Now we stood toe to toe.
I was stirring at a bloody neck as I yanked on the rope with all my strength.
Then the head dropped, and as it was rolling, said Boo to me.

Happy Halloween
