Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
I check my look in the mirror,
My reflection grins like a half-wit,
My hair never seems to listen,
My eyes are dripped in desperate.
My wrinkles jest and jibe,
Today, I am as unremarkable as an ant,
Feel like a nearly man, King of the Gutter,
Full make-over needed, a confidence transplant.
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I’ve gorged on pride,
Is this the Fall?
Mirror, Mirror… Do tell all!
I test my unskilled tongue,
But the man in the mirror is unimpressed,
He scoffs at my clumsy expression,
Overwrought and showy, a bore-fest.
So I try on different smiles,
Adopt a get-a-grip-of-yourself posture,
And though my walls are weak and ready to crumble,
Deal again!… one last dance, one final rodeo!
I know that mirrors lie,
They only reflect the histrionics,
They tilt every smile,
Send the ugly supersonic.
So, instead of into a mirror, look within,
Find the creature of fierce beauty,
Remember, ugly ducklings become swans,
Locating the authentic you is your duty…
