In naked fields breadthwise thistles and rye
the falling autumn leaves arabesque minuet
with a whispering whistle of nature's piccolo
beneath the pewtered steel blue denim sky
as the gnomes of the pines tell me why
listening to the poet laureate crickets cry
a slow rhythm tempo in nature's escrow
