A mistake

In the detachment from one's true self, a tale unfolds,
How long can I stifle the authenticity that holds?
Existence drifting from what I dreamt of,
A writer's aspiration, but in another's plot caught.
Madness dances yet smiling at what I chose to be
Choices made a path where I didn’t want to exist.
Life is cruel it has no mercy,
I had one lifeline, and I pressed the wrong button indeed!

Author's Note
The poem delves into the consequences of our life-altering choices, where we initially falter but subsequently find ourselves stifling our true essence.I 'm uncertain if turning back is possible, but I am certain that we have a limited time to fiercely reclaim the remaining fragments of our existence, and we must do so without second thoughts.
