A "CRONE"?
You see a "crone" -
near skin-and-bone,
whose face well-lined
is age-defined,
hair silver-grey
many-a-day
longer than I
try to deny,
hands more like claws.
Post-menopause
the "spring chicken"
is now "old hen",
with cackling voice
and curses choice,
who's swapped lipstick
for the broomstick...
.
Folk stay away,
not to me stray
as once they might
when lads' delight
and candidate
for bridal mate.
You pass in blink,
but stop and think...
This "long in tooth"
did once know youth.
I've borne my cross
of love and loss,
learned lessons to
pass on to you
if you would care
to my space share.
