Sky...Havoc!
Slowly, and lowly, from the haze,
Waxes the wildfire moon
As an apparition too soon
Hinting at apocalyptic days
In a feverish twilit cloak
Of boldly emerging gibbous gold;
That angel hue so oft foretold
To coincide with death and smoke
And final Armageddon flame...
Bright now that the setting sun
Seizes his day and calls it done
When moonbeams and fire tint the same
In the tragic spectral harmony
Of moonlit air...and burning tree!
Waxes the wildfire moon
As an apparition too soon
Hinting at apocalyptic days
In a feverish twilit cloak
Of boldly emerging gibbous gold;
That angel hue so oft foretold
To coincide with death and smoke
And final Armageddon flame...
Bright now that the setting sun
Seizes his day and calls it done
When moonbeams and fire tint the same
In the tragic spectral harmony
Of moonlit air...and burning tree!

Dear MS,
Dramatic sunset, perhaps. But wonderfully enchanting as a read. I really enjoyed your take on the experience. H🌷

It was really weird the way the moon just shimmered into existence from out of the haze.
Strange days indeed, but I'm glad you like the read:)

Very well captured. Reminds me of the sunsets we get here in Portugal during wildfire season.
Dramatically beautiful.
Flaming spectacular.
Terrifying gloriousness.

Back in "02 I hiked through a 2 year old burn zone in central Idaho which revealed myriad damage details that were the sort of thing not commonly seen in news video.
Hearths and chimneys the only traces of an old cabin
Holes left by burned out tree roots colonized by gophers
Scorched tree bark eerily creaking in the summer heat, etc.
A very educational hike.

Had a fire here last week, about 15km away - but it certainly produced a dramatic sunset - as you say, at a price.

We had one or two, in recent years, get close enough to the Portland metro area to drop significant ash in our neighborhood.
Enough to be rather sobering.
We have some rain in the forecast this week, though, at least in this area.
Sometimes the flames can go on into October and beyond.

We had a mega-fire-storm in October 2017. We saved the house - all around was black and smouldering with burnt-out cars and houses. I wrote a Terzanella about it on DUP:

Fires now scare me at some very deep level.

As well they should.
And doesn't Terzanella sound like a science fiction femme fatale?
