Sylvia

She taught me
not to care what others think
to keep my own counsel
and rely on judgement I alone must make
but she came from a time
when poets were a rarer breed
before the internet grew poison teeth
the place where kids scratched a deathwish
they branded art
shooting fish in a techno barrel for kicks
She wouldn't have liked it
one bit
