Thoughts on a Quiet Night

promises bloom in words unsaid
to the depth of our souls
we state our heart wishes
to be remembered always
we have written stories
of hopes and wishes and desires
divided by skies and seas
yet we made promises to keep
cloaked in trust we closed the gap
we were each other’s cymbal
to wake up, to remind, to realise
that one will leave without the other
friendship forged through the greyness
through betrayal and disappointment
laughter birthed through life
but life had left
leaving promises to keep.
