Jo
My blue-eyed Jo do you recall
bands on your tranny, our Dad's brawls,
hooky hides in long grass, the dreams,
the sure as hell will of our schemes,
and words we scrawled on toilet walls?
I saw you Jo you looked so tall
not the kid now, no, not at all!
I shoulda called, hey! how you been?
My blue-eyed Jo...
But you scurried through that shopping mall
harassed by kids, buggy, bags an all,
your cheeky grin gone sickly green
you seem long ways from our thirteens...
I guess my time passed at a crawl,
My blue-eyed Jo?
bands on your tranny, our Dad's brawls,
hooky hides in long grass, the dreams,
the sure as hell will of our schemes,
and words we scrawled on toilet walls?
I saw you Jo you looked so tall

But you scurried through that shopping mall
harassed by kids, buggy, bags an all,
your cheeky grin gone sickly green
you seem long ways from our thirteens...
I guess my time passed at a crawl,
My blue-eyed Jo?

Re. Jo
It sounds like a song, or a lullaby, and its is well composed story, with a good rhyme scheme, while i have such sympathy for Jo even if i dont know who is and if he is boy or girl

Thank you kindly for the read & comment.
It's a rondeau.
It has a fixed form. (forme fixe)
There are other fixed form
rhyme schemes.
This form and variations of it
is used in pop song compositions.
I knew Jo but by a different name.
Thanks for the visit.

John McCrae in 1915, called “In Flanders Fields.''Rondeau''
“In Flanders Fields.”
In Flanders fields the poppies grow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
--this was a best example of a successful Rondeau, written while ago
---Rondeau Redoublé also
The same to me are sombre days and gay.
Though joyous dawns the rosy morn, and bright,
Because my dearest love is gone away
Within my heart is melancholy night.
My heart beats low in loneliness, despite
That riotous Summer holds the earth in sway.
In cerements my spirit is bedight;
The same to me are sombre days and gay.
**Like you said, there are variations of this, as on so many other forms simply because, you cant frame human feelings inside a form, it would not give such
authenticity and spontaneity
thanks Rew stay blessed,

You said
" you cant frame human feelings inside a form, it would not give such
authenticity and spontaneity "
I say: " It can be said in such a way. A reader, an audience, of such (fixed form ) would not be so discriminatory (see Shakespeare's sonnets success) as to dismiss, out of hand such. Many, many, hit songs are based on fixed forms although the form is hidden in the accompanying music.
Flanders Fields is usually trotted out as an example of a rondeau
(I do it myself) but there are far finer ones than that poor war-mongering one. Paul Lawrence Dunbar's " We wear the Mask" is a better example.
But no matter what it all comes down to personal preference,
go see all the anthologies for the people's preference.
Thanks for your interest.

Wow, what an insight from a fly-on-the-wall perspective. I somehow feel gratified for you that you got a short glimpse into your friend's new life. And before you say anything, yes, I already know I should never have spoken for you. Maybe I was just projecting somehow...
