I'm Late
I'm late to an early grave
but truth be told I'm late for everything
Kept my mom waiting forever in labor pains,
that was the first time I didn't let anyone push me around
and so began a lifetime of refusing to move to commands
It's not so much the responsibility I mind
but the oppression and tyranny of time
Time - society's arbitrary and dehumanizing demand to tow the line
Time told us of the seasons, when the sow and harvest
The phases of the moon told us of the tides and perhaps when werewolves roamed
Time meant the first light of dawn and foretold of dusk's setting sun but those days are long gone and don't exist anymore.
Today we are so far removed from the natural laws of earth that time is just an artificial construct of man
today we have drive-through laundry services, car washes, food, coffee and even drive-through outhouses (wash and wax extra)
We don't need time anymore yet time controls our lives as ruthlessly as all the dictatorships in history
so I am running late to my early grave
I will not bow down to the tyranny of time
refusing to obey the tik, tik, tik, tokking telling me I'm late
I am a free man, not a number on the face of a clock
Join me and together we will overthrow society's lash, wielded for power and control by people that aren't human anymore
