Bryher
Two thousand years ago, not laid in roses but in thorns, they buried a warrior woman with her mirror and her sword.
A reflection used to remember who she was and where's she's been, as she swung to protect the lives of her family and her friends.
What an odd accompaniment of relics, they found laying by her side, this warrior woman of two thousand years ago, who dared to face the changing tides.

This made me think of what I would want buried with me. What would you want buried with you?

Re: Re. Bryher
Theres no greater truth than the Word Of God, and a man or womans reflection in the inner most sense should follow that truth. Scripture says, its like a man beholding himself in a mirror, and when he steps away from the mirror, he forgets what manner of man he is.
So, reflection allows us to hold ourselves to better standards, to improve who we are in the areas of love, forgiveness, empathy and compassion towards eachother.
So I'm pretty sure this woman had it right, only my weapon of choice is not of this world, so I'd be buried with my Bible and a mirror. ;)

I love that.
I donated my body to science (I have a multitude of medical problems), so I won't be buried in a traditional sense. just cremated at some point. But if I was, I'd be buried with my journals.

Im sorry to hear about your health, I pray God oversees them all and heals you. As far as your journals, I completely get that. I'm sure you have your own reasons for wanting to be buried with them, maybe you should just combine them and write a book. Memoir

Re. Bryher
I thought being buried with your mirror was a sign of vanity. I want to be buried with all my money so no one else can touch it! I don't really mean that... the second bit.

Lol, my family has money and I hate it! I live broke, I hate their money because they are miserable even with it. I'd rather be broke and happy than rich and miserable. Kids only come around them because they know they will have inheritance one day, I swear to goodness I hope she leaves it all to a homeless person on the street!!!!!

A woman who carried a sword knew the chance of scars. So I doubt vanity was the reason for the mirror.

I personally wouldn't argue with her, would you? Especially with that sword. Speaking of money, which we were, both my long-time friend Steve & I would rather be miserable, living wealthy in comfort than miserable & poor. I'm gonna say something quite profound now (which is rare for me) just to show I know where you're coming from. "You cannot put a price on happiness". :-)

So you assume just because someone is poor they are unhappy? I'm honestly asking because im poor, and any misery I have does not come from lack of money. For i have said (i hate money) Money is a space filler, void filler if you will. The only difference is the poor have time on their hands to consider life, they dont spend their days and nights at events. The rich fill that time with events, stuff, creating happiness to fill the void, but are they truly happy, or just blessed to fill the time?

Re: Re. Bryher

Never assume. That's usually a bad thing, right? No, I'm gonna agree with you because I think you're lovely but mainly because I think you're right. I am currently making that error, yes, that somehow money makes one happier. It probably doesn't BUT it does give people more choice & more options but no... when you really look at it, money won't change one's mindset. I do get that, honestly. :-)

I hope I didn't seem hateful, but my feelings about money is this, I look at so many broken people on the streets, shooting up, dirty, hungry, broken babies and it breaks me. Those with money are not bad, and I dont believe in taking from the rich and giving to the poor either but...
If through free will others learned to pick up the broken and dont give them money but time and a friend, empathy and compassion.
Maybe they would feel worth something and be encouraged to make a change. Money wouldn't have to fix something that basic human decency could fix. We are truly all just human, all of us lost.
Its not money everyone needs.
Thank you for being nice, I mean no disrespect.

And you are also right, yes money does create a lifestyle that helps avoid struggle, but I couldn't feel comfortable being rich turning a blind eye while my brothers and sisters are lost and hungry. That's all I meant, one can be rich and still be lost and hungry.

It's frustrating that the government can't do more for the homeless who want help. Not all want help because some have trouble fitting into an institutional society, right? I really don't pretend to know the percentage who are content in their homeless communities though. Another thing I'd say, based on experience, is that if you offer someone your half-eaten hamburger or fresh hamburger even, some will tell you to F... off because they'd prefer the booze, right, which is understandable! Show a little kindness, you say? That could work, unfortunately, I am not the most patient guy who ever walked this damn planet. I hear you but I can't promise anything. All I can do is aspire to be a kinder, nicer person to everyone, regardless of their standing. :-)

I wasn't directing how I feel towards you personally. I promise, and you are right, eating vs escape? Of course they choose escape, either way they still have to deal with reality at a certain point. I won't spout my beliefs on here, but there is an answer, most dont want it. I honestly dont know any answer that's not going to be a fight lol. Even when you hold the answer, its still a battle to keep hold of it. So, only God knows how to fix everything really. Its been an interesting conversation Billy, thanks! Lol And you dont need patience, everyone has their role I guess, just make it a good one in small increments hahaha

I'm happy to carry this on a little longer, it's fine. I was out walking with my daughter in Newport, Wales last December when a homeless man asked me if I could spare any change. I said I couldn't. Then he said that classic thing that I really don't like. He said, 'Ok, thank you. Have a great day!' Now, that always makes my blood boil when they say that because I can't work out whether they are being sarcastic or whether they really mean it. My daughter, Kelly & I talked about this later & I said to her, would it be acceptable if I replied, 'And I hope you have a great day also!' (After having given them not a penny). My daughter didn't seem to think that would be a good idea, though. The reason I wanted to wish them well was, (1) to test if they were being sarcastic & (2) because I genuinely did wish them well even though I didn't help them with a penny. During the chat with my daughter, I realised why my blood boiled when I did not give them a penny, yet still got kindness in return. It's because I felt GUILTY not giving but not guilty enough as to return with a penny. Once the anger sets in, that's it, shutters down. lol.

I understand, but there are still kind hearts out there that genuinely mean what they say. I mean it would be easy for a homeless person to put themselves in another's position of financial understanding. They are broke and know they are helpless to their own situation, maybe experience and perspective allows them to understand that you really might not have had it and bid you a good day. Or if by chance he was being sarcastic then God knows. Kindness doesn't cost a thing. And honestly? What if he was being sarcastic, what does that effect your life? Your going home to a warm house, he still has to be on the streets, so he's contributing bitterness to his brokeness. An I'll show me move.

Lol No no..I promise! Everybody has their own opinions and ways of handling things. I dont believe anyone should ever give out of feeling guilty. Ok, you have a daughter, next time you observe a homeless person, think of this... What if one day, God Forbid, something happens to you, your daughter spirals into depression and decides to numb her pain, so then she basically keeps using until she's forfeited everything she had. Then one day she wakes up homeless on the street. Would you not want a kind stranger helping her out?
Would you not want a kind stranger to jump in and help her figure out where she could get a roof over her head for the night? Of course you would. All these people are somebody's baby. And you know through the eyes of a parent they will always be your baby no matter the condition, no matter the age. So I didn't say anything that I'd want you to feel guilt over, just trying to give you maybe their perspective. I'm sorry, didn't mean to make you feel like you handled it wrong, and honestly. I'm just rambling. Lol I'm nobody, but I am very passionate about the homeless crises, and governments waste allotted money when they could seriously find permanent solutions with the funds if they would just try.

With all due respect, I really don't need to answer this question as I already agree. I have heard that many are only ONE paycheck away from disaster. Homelessness can happen to anyone, even my own daughter, I know. Also, I'd rather be homeless than my daughter or your good self. But I would say that, wouldn't I, because I'm a man & I'm supposed to be tough, right? Don't worry, Donald Trump will sort it all out, I'm sure, if the c*nt ever gets elected. I'm only saying this because you frightened me. You were right to frighten me, though. Homelessness could happen to anyone at any moment & it's a long long way back out of that hole.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say anything wrong, and I certainly didn't mean to frighten you. And just because your a man doesn't mean you have expectations set on you of how to be an honourable man if need be. I would also be homeless for anybody if I needed to if it meant they didn't have to feel the hurt and broken. As far as Donald Trump goes, this is not a political issue, I've heard his take on homelessness and I disagree greatly on how he expected cities to handle the crises.

Re: Re. Bryher
Oh I think he did many things right. But I know that California has a major crises of homelessness, and ive heard him speak on the matter, he was telling them to get it cleaned up, and how it was basically a disgrace. These people are not just throw aways. So yes, on this issue I disagree with how he sees it.
Re: Re. Bryher
30th Jul 2023 5:10am
So, when Trump told them to 'clean up' was he actually offering California any financial support to do it?

Re: Re. Bryher

California received over 400 million in funding to help the crises. Who knows what they did with the money. The problem is the lining of the already rich pockets, expecting them to handle the situation. As far as Trump personally giving money to help? I have no idea.
However, I've heard his take on it, he's right, america should not have homelessness like it does, but if you are just combating the issue for "the look" when other countries come to visit, then there's no real concern for the well being of the population that are actually living through the experience of being homeless.

We all know 'talk is cheap'. And of course Trump didn't offer any of his personal wealth to help with California's homeless situation. It stinks of corruption if you ask me (even though you didn't). Anyway, I thought we weren't going to talk about politics tonight.
