Mint
I won't be coy,
this isn't a hint,
currently all I grow is mint.
In the inner city,
gardens aren't pretty,
my neighbors don't like plants, just weed.
I want much more,
lush gardens by the score!
But fierce summer heat will always impede.
My sister grows a bounty on her porch,
but Oregon's heat isn't the Phoenix blowtorch.
Still, here in this desert apartment I know.
there are plenty more herbs I could currently grow.
like basil, rosemary, chives, cilantro
And do that I must,
if you know what I mean
i am happiest when I'm surrounded by green.
this isn't a hint,
currently all I grow is mint.

Oh, my goodness girl, my barrel of mint is growing out of control! I live in the city and have a small garden plot at my apartment building. Veggies, snapdragons and marigolds. And can't forget the herbs. I give away so much, especially the herbs.
Wishing you a peaceful day.

I wish my apartment complex had that. When I lived in Tacoma, my highrise had a container garden in the parking lot. It was fun to talk to neighbors and grow tomatoes and basil.
Hope you are having a peaceful day too.

Cute!
Man, I can kill even mint. Nothing survives me. That’s not even a metaphor. I can keep me and a cat alive, and that’s about it. So I commend you on your mint. Do the shit that makes you happy.

Priorities: self and cat alive first. If you want to attempt plants again though, here's a tip: boil eggs, let the water cool, then water your plants with that. I do that once every whoever I think of it, and my plants lift up their little leafy arms and go "Whee!"

Lovely. PS: I now have added a fifth green in my tiny appartment. I certainly do not have a green thumb, I think the plants thrive despite me........Keep the faith, Regards, Robert.

Thanks Robert. See my advice to Betty. Its the only tip I have, but it keeps my plants looking good.

Maybe the fifth plant will usher in a new era of peace, love, and growth for the other plants. Sometimes surprises are good.

Re. Mint
It seems a lot of we poets are apartment dwellers. I wonder if there's anything to that ... How do you stand the blowtorch heat our there ??
Cool poem, definitely Zen

Like everyone else, I'm mostly inside after 10 AM. I don't mind the heat in short bursts, but I have to stay slathered in sunscreen or I'll fry.

A small fan.............and I sleep on a thin mattress right on the floor.........PS: at my age I prefer the big city with all its attractions...........and hospitals close by.

I love city life, being anonymous, stuff to do.
It's chaotic but suburbs were never for me and rural us an unknown ...

Pretty much same here. Suburbs are not for me. Hate them. As for the ''way yonder'' you need a vehicle to travel. Don't have one. Not even a bike anymore. But I go on long walks every day. Regards, Robert.

I would love to not have to drive every day. Sometimes I fantasize about giving up my car with its debilitating monthly payments, insurance costs, etc. but not a possibility at this time.
