Where wild flowers grow
I hear an echo
when you falter
did you empty your room?
does it no longer comfort you
do I
no longer keep you
whole-
how far away from me
are you?
In your empty room
picking at my nails
that are still
clinging to the earth
where I dug
deep and bare
to find only
worms
purged my thoughts
of you
into the hole
and filled it in
wondering
if flowers will grow

Blooming untamed flowers! I enjoyed this.
Burying the past - hopefully coming back in time to reflect
and learning something useful.
What a write!!

Thank you. This was two pieces inspired by a thread in the forum. I love your take on it. 😁

Spoke to me of the primal
nature of love...
Most excellent...
(But more importantly...
The receptivity to such
a force...
That's a real thing...
I feel...)

Mags!!! It’s so fucking good to see you post, my sweet friend.
The last line… yes, flowers grow when fertilized by shit. It’s good to bury the toxic thoughts and let something beautiful grow in the hollow space.
I loved your use of space. The emptiness in the poem itself and the non-reaction purge was elegant. I loved it.
Also?!?!! Sooooo good to see you post!

Good to see you here too and 😘
Always love seeing you on my comments.
I wanted a kind of empty, indifferent kind of feel to this, so pleased you got that.
Diolch yn fawr Betty for your great feedback.
Appreciate you 🥰🥰

Wildflowers are made of a sterner stuff than domestic flowers, beautiful & durable, and when you can bare those worms, that's a sign of healthy soil, where the dirt can actually purge many germs, in particular those borne of modernity. It's important to get dirty...and a good purge into the hole can make you whole....
I've done the best gardening of my life this summer, and fairly sure I can do even better next year, so these themes are really resonating with me :)

Indeed they are. Thank you Ben. Good to see you here.
I used to collect worms as a child and ask my mums friend to close her eyes and open her hand. Her scream was deafening, must have frightened those worms so much 😁
I've really got stuck into gardening the past two years, love my wild flowers.

2 things make this work for me: tone & objects
The tonal shifts are what hook me, and compel me to return. This happens in the 1st stanza--the way the question interrupts, and introduces and a light-verse tone, re-inforced by the content of the question. The next shift occurs when the queston-form repeats, but with the question darker: "how far away / ARE you?" (emphasis mine).
The objects do most of the work here: room, nails, dirt, worms, hole, strung together with action-verbs.
Nice!
And LIKED!

This poem evokes a sense of longing and loss, exploring themes of separation and emptiness. The imagery of an empty room and the speaker's contemplation of distance and abandonment create a poignant atmosphere. The use of questions adds to the sense of uncertainty and vulnerability, highlighting the speaker's feelings of being alone and disconnected. The metaphor of digging deep and finding only worms symbolizes the futility of searching for something meaningful in the absence of the other person. The poem's closing lines, pondering whether flowers will grow from the filled-in hole, suggest a glimmer of hope or possibility amidst the pain and emptiness.
