love songs of innocence―no. 2

unfathomable flames

“The best teachers are those who show you where to look,
but don’t tell you what to see.”―Alexandra K. Trenfor

because you were my teacher,
you had a constant feature
in everything i did;
but since i was your student,
it would have seemed imprudent
to kiss you―God forbid!

my golden morning sunshine,
my lullaby at bedtime,
my princess bride at school;
so perfectly proportioned,
your smiling lips so fecund
―the subject of my drool!

encyclopaedic wisdom
and keen scholastic vision
came not from books and charts,
but from your charming presence,
which gave you open license
to stun unguarded hearts.

you said my love seemed truthful,
but i was far too youthful
for efflorescent games;
you’d have me home for dinner,
to help me curb my inner
unfathomable flames.

the day i graduated,
no less infatuated,
i faced the world alone;
but, deep within my spirit,
i knew there was no limit
to young love freshly flown.
