Sitka Bear Orphan
Wildflower orphan of Valhalla
Sits like Buddha by window
Remembering spring berries
Gathered on hillsides
Where his cub spirit
Dawned in an age of innocence
In the sunshine of his mother
Whose soul still roams in his heart
Still grateful for the fresh fruit
Served by his keepers
But he pines for a childhood long past
Into the vapors of heaven
Where his Mom is a dancing bear
Reflected in his misty eyes
Like the blossoming rainbow
On a long lost mountainside
Where blueberries ripen

This is a beautifully heartfelt poem. "In the sunshine of his mother" made me tear up a bit. The whole piece did. Nicely done.

Pinkdreams, deep abiding gratitude to you for really feeling what I felt looking at the lonely bear. Indeed the trip was the most meaningful one I have taken. I thank you from my heart and soul my friend.

I'm an introvert who oftentimes forces myself to interact with most folks but when it comes to animals, I feel at ease and most like myself. So much so that years ago, I left the professional world to start up my own business and for almost 6 and 1/2 years prior to the pandemic I was truly happy and successful doing in home pet sitting for dogs, cats and birds. (any domesticated animal, really) I was lucky enough to grow my business to the extent that I had 4 employees, with a strong customer base that offered awesome return business as well as this incredible word of mouth revenue in addition to what my own marketing investments help to garner. It was hard hard work but I absolutely loved it and had clients that were loyal and trustworthy as well as financially sound. Then covid slowly wiped out all that hard work within 7 to 8 months. I still have a few die hard clients that I will randomly work for, however, I now work from home, at an office job that I swore I'd never go back to... Life is strange that way, in how you adjust.
I learned that animals big and small, are part of who I am... period. I started volunteering about two years ago at a no kill animal sanctuary, not far from where I live and I foster as often as I am able. So, this connection you feel with these orphaned bears, makes all the sense in the world to me, my darling... I get it, 100%.Your heart is big and filled with deep compassion. It's the smallest defenseless ones that we need to protect in this big bad world, If that doesn't teach us something about ourselves, then we're lost.
I'm beyond thrilled to read your emotive and truly wonderous experience.... I simply adore you sharing that part of your travels, in addition to your beautiful soul with us.

Susan, your pet-sitting job sounded like a dream job. This place was for bears whose father and/or mother were killed by car accidents or hunters as you so brilliantly picked up on my darling. Since they get raised as cubs there they don't adapt to the wild again. You understood the meaning as a person with experience animals would. This particular bear was sitting by a window gazing at the other bears. He looked sad like he might have been remembering his days with his parents when they roamed freely in the forest. I admire you even more for watching after those pets. And I am ever so happy for you that you could make a living this way. Your spirit of love for these animal people gives me a very warm feeling inside. Your heart is big my friend. I have known that about you from the emotional way you write. Now, I see that you love animals like I do. I am very happy to think of you caring for them. You are a great-souled person whom I have grown to love and respect over the years.
