Arbeit macht Frei

So the sign at the entrance
To the nazi concentration camp
''Work makes you free''

Today people in rich societies are not sent
To concentration camps.
Still,  most people find it hard to make ends meet
On slave wages.
Many must work two jobs just to make ends meet

No wonder some people break down and fall off
Totally drained and exhausted
Finding it difficult to get back on their feet

Some just never do.
No longer physically, mentally, able to deal with the rat race

Down down down.
Food banks
More and more people are knocking on such doors
(Yet some are tooooo proud to go that way,
Preferring to tighten the belt a bit more
Till the next meagre pay check)

Foodbanks are there not only at, oh, so joyous, happy
And loving Chritmas time
When the rich shed a tear and drop a coin in the Salvation Army box
No.  In summer as well

Imagine Mr Scrooge is not visible at this time of year
Only at Chritmas time and in re-run movies
But he is present year round.

Hey, Merry Christmas
Or whatever.
