THE UNFAILING AXIS
THE UNFAILING AXIS
We know that man is weak and dazed
and eazily charmed by sex and gold.
Not all who say they have deep faith
are forged by that most purging flame.
A strong axis can make a wheel
well-fixed and fit to have its role,
but wheels can differ in their stuff
and each will show what it is worth.
The clergymen are human beings
who have devotion and their flaws.
They are like us and have mistakes,
but those who're good can do a lot.
The Lord gives man what can produce,
the torch which gives a perfect flame.
It will set right what darkness spoils
and fill the soul with sublime warmth.

Indeed God gives the best light of guidance and that's the take from your great poem in fine meter and rhythm. Kudos!
Plz also read and comment on my newest poem too.

Very dear Zaynab,
It's very kind of you to write such encouraging words about my poem. Indeed, you are very deep-minded to write such a comment about my faith. J.Z.

Particularly love this verse, churchgoers often take our pastors for granted, then get shaken if they are caught up in scandal or marriage breakdown in their own homes:
The clergymen are human beings
who have devotion and their flaws.
They are like us and have mistakes,
but those who're good can do a lot.

Very dear Solomon,
Thank you very much for your very expressive comment. It's really very important to keep in mind that all people are liable to make mistakes. Their faults are theirs and not caused by their religion as people suppose. J.Z.

Re. THE UNFAILING AXIS
Speaking of people making mistakes::
I did not know that "the imaginary line around which a large round object, such as the Earth, turns or a line drawn across the middle of a regular shape that divides it into two equal parts" (https://www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/axis) could fail, let alone be unfailing.
It looks like you mistook "axis" for "axle" i.e., a pin or shaft on or with which a wheel or pair of wheels revolves: a fixed bar or beam with bearings at its ends on which wheels (as of a cart) revolve (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/axle).

Very dear Baldwin,
I am not writing about an AXLE, but an AXIS. According to: OXFORD DICTIONARY & THESAURUS, AN AXIS: n. 1-b a line which divides a regular figure symmetrically. Don't you have anything else to talk about the poem?

"I am not talking about two wheels. I am talking about one."
Really? Then why did you say "wheels can differ in their stuff""?
And a single wheel is mounted on an axle, not an axis, which is an imaginary line..

Dear Baldwin,
I say, "but wheels can differ in their stuff," because when that ONE WHEEL gets old or out of action, we replace it with another ONE WHEEL, which the machine requires. However, not all wheels are equal in stuff or value. J.Z.

Re: Re. THE UNFAILING AXIS
And for the replacement wheel to serve its purpose, you have to mount it on an axle, not on an imaginary bisecting line.

Re. THE UNFAILING AXIS
I believe this line
"It will set right what darkness spoil"
should be
"It will set right what darkness spoils".
And are mistakes something that one possesses? One **makes** mistakes, but one does not "have" them. yes?
P.S. I see that you've implicitly acknowledged that I was correct about "spoils" in that you've edited (without acknowledging the validity of my critique) your text to make it grammatically correct.
