Author's Note
When I think of Bukowski I remember the first time I read Factotum or Post Office or Women. This guy knew what it was like to apply for a journalist's job at the local newspaper and be offered the janitor's spot. He turned his stints at the brake shoe factory, the dog food plant, the post office -- all jobs I could have had -- into a joke. It was glorious. I read the poems later, but I always think of him as a novelist. And, of course, a genius.

I think I loved Bukowski as much as I did Dylan much earlier in my life. An incredible, one-of-a-kind comic. Thinking about him makes me want to re-read. Again.
