Let Love Wrap You Up
There's something to be said about the oldest sibling.
I see the sadness behind those dilated eyes,
And words left unspoken in those contorted lips.
There's a soul on fire in those empty eyed mugshots
And the gossiping whispers that follow you.
You're the scapegoat of the family;
Even your baby brother blames you for his troubles.
Little does he know you took that darkness and ate it,
Just so he could be the child you never got to be.
Your baby sister has grown to be so confident,
With her college degree and her bright smile.
While you bounce from the trap house to the jail cell
And back again,
And your parents will never admit the damage they did,
Even though they were addicts, too.
I see you, baby. I see you.
I see the sadness behind those dilated eyes,
And words left unspoken in those contorted lips.
There's a soul on fire in those empty eyed mugshots
And the gossiping whispers that follow you.
You're the scapegoat of the family;
I see you.
