you still take my breath away (in all the wrong ways)
It feels like forever
since my body belonged
to you
and we lived entwined
inseparable
lost in each other's touch
and breathe
We don't touch anymore
we don't talk
sometimes we yell
break each other down
with misunderstandings
and frustrations
inflicting wounds
that don't heal
just scab over
until the next time
we rip each other apart
with words
And sometimes I wonder
if I've ever really known you
or if you lost yourself
in the white picket fantasy
we were never going
to live up to
because I lost myself in you
lost myself in a dream
that couldn't live up to reality
and I thought second chances
could heal old wounds
because stories tell us
that love is enough
and that it can weather any storm
If that's true
then why are we drowning?
since my body belonged
to you
and we lived entwined
inseparable
lost in each other's touch
and breathe
We don't touch anymore
we don't talk
sometimes we yell
break each other down
with misunderstandings
and frustrations
inflicting wounds
that don't heal
just scab over
until the next time
we rip each other apart
with words
And sometimes I wonder
if I've ever really known you
or if you lost yourself
in the white picket fantasy
we were never going
to live up to
because I lost myself in you
lost myself in a dream
that couldn't live up to reality
and I thought second chances
could heal old wounds
because stories tell us
that love is enough
and that it can weather any storm
If that's true
then why are we drowning?
