Saltwater rivers
Pool of broken dreams,
saltwater rivers of pain and loss;
reflect my reality back at me
as a mirror for my conscience
and a fount of truth.
Is there a humble path to steer
between lifelong feelings of inadequacy
and the ugly superiority complex
that now emerges in my reflection?
Saltwater, cleanse and purify.
Crystalline mirror, enlighten me.
I will wait, as I stare into your depths.
I will leave my burdens here.
Long, you have existed because of my pain
and I bring it here again—
not happy because it exists,
but grateful for what you show me
reflected in my tears.

This feels really vulnerable and that’s its superpower.
Y’know it’s interesting about the use of salt water in this. Salt in the metaphysical sense has always had strong protection properties. How funny that subconsciously we invoke it in our tears, in the seas in which we swim.

It's also antiseptic, isn't it (or something)? I touched on that a bit. I wasn't going to mention explicitly that the salt water represents tears here, but hey, I'm upset. Haven't got the heart for swimming, and I have a big charity swim in two weeks. Having the Don't-Want-Tos rings a huge alarm bell for me, so I really need to work on my head.
