it was a different time back then we had milk delivered to the door on milk floats and bought cigarettes out of slot machines when the shops were shut and nobody went out on a sunday apart from the few who went to church and wednesday was half day closing and there was always the chance of power cuts or bomb threats ..

For the shop workers to have some time off. They worked Saturdays, of course, so it would a full six day week otherwise ..
