Lost in Space - Mars
Walternate Universe Beta-2
“There he is” an older man greeted me as I stepped through
“We’ve heard you’ve been traveling the great vast of space”
There were several people standing next to him on a platform
“Welcome” another man said but I thought I recognized his face
“I’m Dr. Young, this is Dr. Mathers” they introduced themselves
My eyes opened wide that these men were living in Mars
“Don’t tell me Dr. Shakur and Dr. Smalls are here too” I said
“No, they passed away sometime ago and now rest amidst the stars
Do you know about their work on antimatter and particle acceleration?”
I stuttered for a second thinking that these men were of great minds
“No, not particular, I know their use of the English lexicon was phenomenal”
“Well you should meet the rest of them, you’re going to have a great time”
As we walked across the landing dock others went about their work
I was beginning to feel that Beta’s world and Mars was going to be wild
When I walked through their research facility I was in awe of the place
Every poet I had admired was here as if they had been exiled
But they were all doctors, scientists, researchers in every field
Some nodded at me saying hello as they worked amidst their peers
Every other scientist I’d seen before were here making headway
They had been successfully terraforming Mars for fifty-five years
In space suits we rode on a giant all-terrain vehicle through a road
The red planet was beginning to resemble earth in many places
They pointed out that thousands of satellites have been in orbit
Warming up the planet through different stages and phases
We arrived in a city that had several ships landing and leaving
It had tall buildings made of red stone and glass with bright lights
Although the light of the sun was faint what really caught my eye
Was a volcano in the distance so large it rose high into the sky
I was taken into their university classroom with a large display screen
And while their engineers worked on my brace I learned their history
The Beta universe had been colonizing many moons but in Mars
They had been unraveling many of the universe’s mysteries
“Your jump time is coming up” one of them said checking his watch
“Can’t I stay and learn more?” I asked but I knew I had to get home
“Perhaps your alternate can help” he replied as the time came near
Making this a pleasant day as I saw stars through their astrodome
“We’ve contacted him” Dr. Young said as he handed me the brace
“Dr.” I said, “I just want you all to know I appreciate all you’ve done”
“We just ask that you’re careful with the information you’ve learned
Because in many other universes this would be worth a ton”
“I understand confidentiality is of the utmost importance” I replied
“Good luck” all the doctors said as I walked toward the launch pad
In this universe, on the red planet the great minds had all come together
And though I was getting closer to home, leaving Mars made me a little sad
