State of Affairs 2012
Four years ago
ground was broken
Into the White House went Obama
was he much more then a token?
Tacked to the middle
liberals didn't mind
Had the majority of primaries
at the end of a Democratic grind
But even in office
derogatory terms were thrown
Most so pathetic
more than any other president has known
Communist, socialist, Muslim
not a citizen of the USA
For most people the attacks
held so little sway
But as the election battle
spins anew
Some doubts I have in civility
for that desire seems too few
Just look at Newt from Georgia
from Atwater he learned
Politics of destruction
how to make opponents burn
For Santorum I don't know
so many quotes absurd
Ignore them the media wouldn't
let him fly away like a little bird
But now Romney has to embrace them
has to solidify the core
Will he become unelectable
making less partisans close the door?
Yes things bother me about the president
but I can argue without the hate
As Kennedy and Goldwater were set to
until Kennedy's tragic fate
Now all of us are really guilty
we prop up the media's role
Say campaign funds are what matters most
and talk ad nauseum about polls
Yet even sadder still
Are those seeing a sinking boat
Not wanting to help paddle
By even taking the time to vote

Thanks! A bit of hubris perhaps. I had a conversation with a friend yesterday. As I got off the phone, I turned on cspan, to find a panel talking about all the stuff I had just gone over with my friend. The only difference was they had more statistics at their command. My goal basically was to talk about the presidential race with at least a little objectivity.

The genre of political poetry is actually quite old as in some regimes....there were no chance to speak freely....I remember that the Prime Minister of maybe Czeck....was a poet...and poets have been known dissenters with their oblique use of words

They seem to forget that it was under his watch that they got Osama Bin Laden, left Iraq and are trying to broker peace in the middle east
The word communist definitely does not apply
The word socialist is misunderstood in the USA
He could not run for president if not born here
Governor Gtanholm late of Michigan...was a superstar...but is barred from being president as she was born in Canada and her parents moved to the USA when she was 3...people still referred to her as a Canadian...........eeekkk!

My dear you bring up terrific points. I think people would be surprised at the number of politicians who have tried their hand at poetry! Indeed John Kerry who was head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, suggested that the US Military, while George W.Bush was in office, blew a chance to catch Bin Laden at Tora Bora.
Good news is that Arnold Schwarzenegger can't be president, unless the Constitution is change. There were a few people suggesting that but that was before Arnold's infidelity hit the media's eye.

Another great political piece. Your flow was very consistant, and your points were definitely eye openers. I do have one question though: Love? What became of him? I don't have cable; if I did, I'd be in front of CNN all day or glued to Anderson Cooper's 360.

I don't know who Love is. Is he an Independent? Buddy Roemer, whom I like, will be running as an Independent as will Gary Johnson. Both were shut out of the Republican debates. I like some of what they say but as they have positions like legalizing pot, and were for curbing some of the activities of the CIA, there was no way the establishment of the Republican Party was going to give them exposure. Roemer, like Jerry Brown, refused to take contributions over one hundred dollars.

I was thinking Ron Paul and his "revolution" (noticed the word 'love') I was hoping you'd catch that. Anyhow, before Ron Paul became Ron Paul, he was considered (here in AZ) a revolution(ary) emphasizing on love. Whatever that means! Sorry if I confused you.

Thanks for informing me! I also have a basketball background so when I saw "Love" I was thinking of a couple of players with that last name. With Paul representing Texas, the Arizona connection was unknown to me, although it is easy to see why people who liked Goldwater are supporters of Paul. The thing about Paul is most liberals like what he says about foreign policy. He also in my view "waffles" to court the electorate much less then some of candidates.
