Christina Taylor Green
(The child victim in the Gabrielle Giffords assination attempt)
There she went where she could inquire
How to hold a real leader’s reins,
For imagination fires
In minds grown for gains,
To lead a life sworn to serve those
That follow the faces that assume
The persons who rose
To show a light soon.
But without consent came the cut
To the sense of calm that pervades
The public scene, but
From the shadows, shades
Of doom and danger stirred to strike
Her when she first flexed her said rights
To be of a psyche
So grasped by the sights.
But in her role as a witness she
Laid her eyes on what never knew
How she had to see
How to live life through
When victims would become what fall
To hatred had by the severe
Savage sin to call
What demons draw near.
But Christina hoped for the voice
To reward the others in deed,
A humble heart’s choice
On that that we feed,
To gather the strength to provide
For what all peoples want to learn,
Where peace would abide
The comfort we yearn.
