How to kill a butterfly?
How do you kill a butterfly?
One that has been flying for over a year
One we have nourished together
One that flutters and dances and fills me
How do you squeeze the life out of such a beautiful creature?
My stomach seems to do it for me
Gnawing and turning and tearing
Wing after wing
Leg after leg
It is crying
Or I am
But it keeps fighting
Why won't it just die?
One that has been flying for over a year
One we have nourished together
One that flutters and dances and fills me

I feel as though it's because neither you nor butterfly wants to give anything up without a fight. the butterfly not wanting to give up on its life and you not wanting to give up someone that is/was your life? and no matter how hard you try, you can't give up and let a love die that made you feel so alive. and the butterfly might have that same passion for its own life beings that its lived longer than the average of its kind? just a thought... beautifully written.
