I Hope Our Deaths Are As Beautiful

We build our days quickly, loving in frantic
twitches as if life is purchased by the second.
Sex is another item on our to-do list and
we must get to it.

I wish for the life my mother has known.
She held lovers in anticipation, delaying all
that she knew was inevitable. Her whole life leading
toward a last surrendered breath.

At my moment of passing,
will I feel the touch of past lovers?
Will I see my mother’s face?
Will I feel the soft purr of orgasm
carry me into that darkened room?

I hope our deaths are as beautiful as life has been.
