O'Clock
One day
we may freeze our bodies
resurrect dinosaurs
and conquer stars
playing god with atoms
until the future shrinks
but the enemy waits
and the enemy
always wins
For the enemy
victory means nothing
and defeat
means everything
to us
The enemy
is all around
inside and outside
stalking invisibly
taking stock
stealing all we love
dismissing dreams
with an axe of years
wielded from shadows
The enemy is nowhere
and everywhere at once
knows all there ever will be
knew all there ever was
The enemy waits
has no need to fight
and whether counted
in moons or minutes
whether nameless or named
the enemy always
wins
we may freeze our bodies
resurrect dinosaurs
and conquer stars
playing god with atoms
until the future shrinks
but the enemy waits
and the enemy
always wins
For the enemy
victory means nothing
and defeat
means everything
to us
The enemy
is all around
inside and outside
stalking invisibly
taking stock
stealing all we love
dismissing dreams
with an axe of years
wielded from shadows
The enemy is nowhere
and everywhere at once
knows all there ever will be
knew all there ever was
The enemy waits
has no need to fight
and whether counted
in moons or minutes
whether nameless or named
the enemy always
wins
