Maidens (written with Rianne)
I am daughter of this fertile green Earth
Leaning lilting towards birch songs
that chant the wind
as we said goodbye
in each possible way
we re embroidered
our innocence
born under the waxing moon
I arrived, screaming my way
into this existence;
the world belonged to me -
yet I belonged to no one,
save the Father by proxy
of my lineage;
in love with the stars
I fell so far from -
embodied with their frenetic,
pulsing energy
bare feet in the summer grass,
my grandmother told stories
over rice and butter beans
picked from her morning garden -
I’d yet to understand
the lessons within;
curiosity packed itself tightly
inside each of my waking moments -
I wanted her to tell me
everything, plainly;
it would take me years
to realize she already had
Given me her offerings
practicing heart beats
white veiled permafrost is melting
intricate Imbolc patterns
gowned in the wailing
leaf
of rosemary
Dancing
Leaning lilting towards birch songs
that chant the wind
as we said goodbye
in each possible way
we re embroidered
our innocence
born under the waxing moon
I arrived, screaming my way
into this existence;
the world belonged to me -
yet I belonged to no one,
save the Father by proxy
of my lineage;
in love with the stars
