The king is dead
He was the original, the master of the game
Brazil is mourning their hero
Now the world just won’t be the same
He was one of those epic, legendary men
I heard about when growing up as a kid
And when I saw the reels he was the real deal
Amazed by his skills and everything he did
He was the trendsetter back in his day
Every modern footballer has copied his style
But in truth the first is always the best
The champion children dream to be for a while
All the greats now are paying tribute
Everyone knows when you say his name
Rest in peace king and thank you
The way you played the beautiful game

Thank you Honoria for your comment. Too often as kids we mimic and sort of have that internal narration that goes along with our imagination when I used to play. It inspires kids and future players. I gave up the sport as a teen but I still enjoyed watching it. It just brings memories of friends and fun times.

In interviews he said that when he used to play as a kid, it was the way he'd kick the ball (I guess it's where the Portuguese translations are a little lost) other boys said he hit it wrong "pe" but the kids would say "pelé". The nickname stuck, even though he didn't like it but it grew on him.
Later in his teens, he dominated the game and at 17 got play for their national team.
