(David’s Apartment)
“Dr Maze is an explorer.” David says, examining the unique packaging of each substance.
“An explorer?”
Her curiosity is palpable.
“He started traveling late in life but in a short time, amassed a collection of passport stamps in exotic locations.”
“Interesting.”
“Yes. His interests are in the plant medicines that remain hidden from modern society.”
“Are there still such things?
Things that are hidden?” She wonders.
“It does seem like we have discovered everything.
While we have discovered nothing.
A paradox.
Perhaps akin to your paradox of free will.”
“One usually leads to the next.” She says, smiling, requesting permission to pick up one of the packages.
David nods to her.
“This one comes from Mexico.” Katherine says, observing the object in her open palm.
A sacrament.
“How can you tell?” David asks.
“My grandma is a land owner in Jalisco and sends me things all the time.”
“I wonder what it is.” David says.

“You are quite dexterous.” David observes.
“You have the hands of a Taiwanese manufacturer.”
Her hands unravel the intricate packaging, tongue in the corner of her mouth, each movement a piece of a puzzle, solved.
A Russian doll of wrappings.
The last, tinfoil.
Making a crinkling sound, the sound of interdimensional travel.
A compacted substance, wrapped in cellophane, sealed with a stamp, a symbol.
The outline of a statue in a trance like state.
“Mushrooms.” David says.
“Mushrooms from Mexico?” Katherine asks.
“Mexico is the mother of mushrooms.” David responds.
“I had no idea.”
“One hundred million people on shrooms, watching one hundred thousand human sacrifices…
Hearts torn from chests.
Heads rolling down pyramid steps.”
“That sounds quite…
Ultraviolent…” She says, imitating David’s monotone voice.
Both smile.
Filaments of light floating.
