No Porch Light Tonight

When someone's not home
I leave the porch light on
A light in the darkness saying
I'm waiting for you to return

A sign that I'm expecting you
A light so you don't stumble
Racking up my energy bill
when I leave it on all night

But now I've turned it off
No one's coming home
Those I trusted are gone - abandoned
my home that welcomed them.

Here I am, in my house
that no longer feels like home
Sitting in shards of trust and love
the remnants of my heart

The lights are on inside
a pot is boiling on the stove
the cats and dogs are fed
but the porch remains dark

No one's coming to love me
No one wants to understand me
No one will hear what I have to say
No one's coming home

My love isn't coming home.
