In the beginning

Quick light so bright its blinding.
Takes a few days for sight.
Nurtured and loved no worries binding.
Three years old begins the blight.

Can't forget the first they say.
I slipped hit my head on the wall.
She kicked me in my ribs.
Punched me in my jaw.

Grabbed my hair lifting my head.
Slammed it to the floor.
Said if I tell any ill be dead.
Informed me I was the child of a whore.

Woke up next day sore still feel.
Her old family Bible she slams in back my head
She was destroying all my will
Smiled said see God hates you as I said.

Kinda off and on like this few years.
Fifth birthday she's drunk punches my eye.
Hard kick broke ribs pain severe.
She pulls my head back ask why I won't die.

Funny I started asking this long before.
I think she realized she had beat me to hard.
Made me stay home tryed covering my scar.
This is how I learned love is absurd.

Finally back to school.
Felt nice not been beat in awhile
Won't last long im not a fool.
I knew it was on when I saw her smile.

Thirteen years old still a burden of sin.
Except now she could cover I was hated by all.
She walked in with a pipe smiled I know its on.
I never meant to hit a woman but to late she fall.

I run out the door hide in the night shadow.
Next day kids see me its never over for me.
Seven boys start beating me laughing shallow.
I lost sight when regained shocked by what I see.

Magistrate throws me in cuffs in the car.
Oh you a trouble make I can tell by your scar.
Hits my chin you think you hard.
Slams my head in the wall to far.

I collapse lost consciousness.
I'm on a cold concrete floor small cell.
Bruises all over, split lip, im alive I guess.
Next day continue the hell.

One officer I remember him well.
Pulled me aside said son ill try to help.
Gave me my first cigarette I remember the smell.
Got me an appointment with Judge Phelps.

He did not like me on sight.
I'm feeling nervous.
Lady from child service sneers calls me slime.
The judge offered me ten years or join service.
