dreaming of suicide poets
dreaming of morrissey & ian curtis
while walking home at night
past large & shabby blocks of flats
opposite the magistrate’s
above junk food emporiums
imagining a room
with a lamp on the floor
the only light there is
beside a CD player as
a person dances wildly
to “disorder”
the night outside
going its way
as passing i’m accosted by
a woman begging change
(“just 3 quid to get inside”)
not far from the YMCA
it’s bitterly cold
& i wish i was with
my dancing dreamboat in
the little flat above the chicken shop
slow-dancing now to morrissey
“the more you ignore me
the closer i get”
forgetting that the night
is always just outside
