I think that's the wrong question. What is the value of faith to a person of faith who finds themselves suffering?

But those who have faith are, in a manner, totally blind (or have severe tunnel vision).

God (or the universe) can be blamed for the misfortunes of the many, for the joys of others, the victories for some or for trials. For some part, I think man's nature is greed and selfishness (if gone unchecked) but we like to shift the blame on to something/someone other than ourselves.
If a super volcano were to erupt tomorrow or an asteroid hit earth and wipe half the population on earth, nothing I do, pray, hope would matter if I'm part of the miracle (or anomaly) chosen to survive. Personally, I don't think I fear death, it's part of the cycle, but surviving under harsh conditions is harder.
As Neil Degrasse Tyson once said, if we are part of the universe, we are also stardust. Maybe God (or the universe) is also part of me.
