Heroes Had

Heroes Had

Have a hero venture back
And ask “What was won?”
Was it wanton aims to sack
A world which stood stunned
By a vow of vengeance struck?
Suffice it to say,
The land left had to destruct
So ill had ill pay.

Have the hero spend his time
To wake scenes which paid
Pains won where reason would rhyme
With evils war made
Men to feel more than fierce fools
For games played by sin
Seen so soaked by bloody rules
Where neither name wins.

Have a hero find a route
To rest from the toll
That found fancy and dispute
In halls that pledged souls
To the fight for honor waged
By sons who had not
Hewed or harbored for the rage
To know who forgot.

Have a hero limp and post
The cost war consumed
To tell what the war wanted most,
History resumed
Or the progress worlds would make,
When want could abide
By benefits timed to take
And give to both sides?
