ASHES
Here I am
Standing in the ashes
Looking for my nightlight
In the nightlife
Knowing I won’t find it
In the nighttime
After all
We’ve both been here before
At the foot, the start of a war
Wondering if death is better
Then everything we’ve ever
Fought for
Is this what we’ve both come
This far for
To burn down everything
In sight
To throw it all into the night
Here I stand
Rising tall as I can
In the aftermath feeling less than
Knowing the struggle to stand
In the shadow of a straw man
Burning
Lighting up the night
We’ve both been here before
At the foot, the start of a war
Wondering if death is better
Then everything we’ve ever
Fought for
Is this what we’ve both come
This far for
To burn down everything
In sight
To throw it all into the night
Bring yourself here
With the fire in between
Flames pulling our hands from the sheen
Of the water we tried to use
To wash each other clean
Instead we’re still burning
Still lighting up the night
Instead we’re both hurting
Falling through the sight
Of all those memories
Just ashes
Ashes in the night
Standing in the ashes
Looking for my nightlight
In the nightlife
Knowing I won’t find it
In the nighttime
After all
We’ve both been here before
At the foot, the start of a war
Wondering if death is better
Then everything we’ve ever
Fought for
Is this what we’ve both come
This far for
To burn down everything
In sight
To throw it all into the night
Here I stand
Rising tall as I can
In the aftermath feeling less than
Knowing the struggle to stand
In the shadow of a straw man
Burning
Lighting up the night
We’ve both been here before
At the foot, the start of a war
Wondering if death is better
Then everything we’ve ever
Fought for
Is this what we’ve both come
This far for
To burn down everything

Flames pulling our hands from the sheen
Of the water we tried to use
To wash each other clean

Still lighting up the night
Instead we’re both hurting
Falling through the sight
Of all those memories
Just ashes
Ashes in the night
