Behind Deaths Doors

In asylums they threw us away
Tried to hide us from light of day
We were different easy to see
But we were treated horribly

Poked and prodded and beaten down
No one to help for miles around
Always drugged so we cant fight
To experiment on us wasn't right

On their tables we laid on display
For medical students to see every day
Naked and cold we couldn't escape
We had to accept this was our fate

The only way out was death by a hand
The sweetest thing in this wasteland
Forgotten are we because no one will see
The horrors we still endure eternally

Were not gone and we'll never be
We roam these halls halfway free
We escaped the torture but still cant see
How we gained no sanity

If inside you want to look
Remember here our bodies shook
Our screams you'll hear upon your ear
We just want out so do not fear

You'll run away and lock the door
Were used to that and nothing more
Just stay out and let us be
Were happy here somewhat free

One day surely well see the sky
When clouds have lifted and gone on by
So pray for us whenever you can
Were all alone in this lonely land.

Author's Note
To all the victims of Asylums wether inside or out, living or dead, you are not forgotten. My inspiration for the poem was the movie called "Eloise". It was dedicated in memory to the victims. They started with 4 buildings and ended with 78 buildings on 902 acres, 10,000 patients and 2,000 staff.
