An Angel in the Rain

“An Angel in the Rain”

Your life is my prison of flowers.
Such chains of winter are my shelter.
I have been singing inside of these confines
Keeping me from the sky that I fear.

Your heartbeat goes by unheard:
A sigh in the glass of my wings.
The door is closed forever—
And I am afraid to leave.
Just give me a while to break
Because I cannot breathe without you.

Rain swept the earth from my bones
But I remain buried in the shallow dawn
Where I kissed you through the window
That looks upon the garden of poison.
Such fruits I have tasted upon your brow—
Glad was I to feel my blossoms wither
In the tomb your faith prepared for me.

I lie here in the cage I have built,
For I dare not touch the sky—
There is so little Heaven without you—
Yet it yawns eternal beyond the enclosure,
Inviting me through the falling snow
To the storms of what life you have left me
Where my tears fall around you as you dance,
Like an angel in the rain.
