Breaking Some More---How Long is the US Going To Bleed Out

I have been invigorated by political causes for many moons
my mom recalled pushing me in the stroller  
in giving her voice to the Farm Worker's cause
my dad was on route to the Ambassador Hotel
the night Bobby Kennedy died
 
My first introduction to John Lennon the solo artist  
was his opposition to Vietnam,  advocacy for John Sinclair,
support for the Black Panther's  
and even a song for Angela Davis
 
His death combined with those of so many heroes
in the fight for human (not just civil) rights  
served as a beacon for my social engagements  
braced by my dad's shocking encounter with Ronald Reagan  
 
But I saw nothing even close to approximating what we are seeing today
not Apartheid, the Iran/Iraq War, Iran contra, invading Iraq
Bush v. Gore, 9/11 or even both parties drolling over Henry Kissinger  
prepared me for the days of Trump
 
Now I am not a tool of the Democratic Party
I could never vote for either Clinton,  
I declined to back Obama for a second term
even left the party with drone warfare  
and the darling of the DLC, Joe Biden
never gained my vote
 
But Trump jettisoned decency and civility  
he talked about personal characteristics  
and insulted hard working military and civilian personnel  
lied about just about anyone who disagreed with him  
embraced a cowboy mentality that would have worried even Reagan
 
We had a president that rejected the norms and standards  
of the Constitution before but Nixon's party saw  
that he couldn't continue in office  
those voices of opposition have been purged largely  
and there is a full effort to quash voting rights  
 
Today we see a Nazi sympathizer dressed up as Hitler
telling a judge he didn't know the Capitol is where Congress meets
please folks you don't have to favor the Democratic Party  
but don't empowered the orange man any more  
no stopping him isn't a panacea for all the problems  
but there is no path I see where he is part of a nonviolent solution
